Counseling held for trainees of SBJ

NOIDA, Nov 14: The Arunachalee students numbering around 150 were given a counseled by Don Bosco Youth Centre, Itanagar in which a host of relevant issues pertaining to life and work in the Beauty and Spa industry was imparted.

The trainees were trained on Appropriate Use of Time, Choosing the Right Career, Work Ethics, while being a North Easterner in NCR were discussed by the resource person as well as by the students in different groups

The counseling programme which is just preceding placement in the industry for most of them, has worked as an energy booster and direction-pointer as a lot of students find themselves at a loss to adjust to work as such in the first place and work in an unfamiliar field. The trainees were advised to earn money through hard work and not through short cuts, as easily earned money is easily lost. They were also encouraged to keep up the name of Arunachal through good and upright behaviour, which would bring dividends to the State. Trainees also tried to make personal time-table in the course of the programme.

The trainees were advised to take care of personal safety and security and follow proper codes of conduct and dressing in keeping with the cultural milieu of the locality where the training centre and hostel is situated.

Health staff urged to maintain punctuality

KHONSA, Nov 14: Tirap District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. N Lowang has urged all the doctors, nurses and para-medical staff of the district hospital to discharge their assigned duties sincerely by maintaining the time table strictly.

She expressed happiness over timely completion of circle wise screening of beneficiaries to ensure 100 percent success and lauded all the screening team for it.

Meanwhile, the staff of the hospital today under the initiative of the DMO cleaned the entire hospital complex, including drains and surrounding areas in view of the free operation camp being conducted in the hospital from November 16 in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti.

AYO’s memo to governor

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: While opposing the letter of the state Governor written to PM suggesting scraping of Greenfield airport in the state in view of the "high cost" and for upgradation of Lilabari airport in Assam, the Arunachal Youth Organization (AYO) in a memorandum to the Governor urged him to reconsider his letter on Green field airport.

While reminding him of the project which was to be built at Karsingsa but shifted to Hollongi later, the AYO further said that airport project should be built at proposed original site.

CoSAAP withdraws tool down strike

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) has called off its proposed 1st phase of one-day pen/tool down strike on November 16 next. The decision came after it was assured of withdrawing the NOC system on promotion and retirement matters in a meeting with chief minister and chief secretary in-charge in presence of UD and Housing Parliamentary secretary Techi Kaso held on November 10 last, the CoSAAP said in a release.

State government, however, reiterated its stand to take action as per rule against individual Govt employees who have encroached government land and destroyed government properties, it informed.

CoSAAP further said that during the meeting the CM assured to convene a tri-partite meeting on retirement age issue with student organizations, CoSAAP and state government for a consensus decision which will be later taken up in the cabinet for final decision.

The association further said that it would continue its remaining phases of tool down strike from December 17 next if the assurances are not fulfilled by then.

Rebel MLAs urged to cooperate with Govt

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Longding district unit of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) urged the entire rebel MLAs to co-operate with the present sitting government for smooth functioning of the Govt. machineries.

The recent infighting among the legislators of the same political parties is hampering the developmental activities directly or indirectly particularly the district, said the member secretary of AAPSU for border affairs cum Communal harmony of Longding district unit.

The people of the state do not want to see any messy political situation but good governance and development, the AAPSU leader said and urged the entire rebel MLAs to support and cooperate with the ruling government for the betterment of the state instead of playing a blame game.

Enumerators undergo training on NPR

SEPPA, Nov, 14: A day-long training of enumerators for updation of National Population Register (NPR) was held at Kameng Hall here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, East Kameng DC Sandeep Kumar Singh urged the enumerators to remain dedicated towards their duty and directed them to conduct house to house visit to ensure that no one is left out during the whole exercise of updation of NPR, which is very much important for ready reference of planning process.

MoU signed between APEDA

and M/s Power Wind Ltd.

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) with M/s Power Wind Ltd. of Gurgaon for turnkey execution of survey, investigation, detailed engineering and designing, including supply and installation of Wind Farms/Wind Solar Hybrid Systems in potential locations of Arunachal Pradesh on 50:50 sharing basis. The aggregate capacity of the entire project will be about 4.5 MW and the estimated cost will be around Rs 40 crore.

The MOU was signed in presence of Dikto Yekar, Parliamentary Secretary (Sc. & Tech) and Chairman, APEDA and Karya Bagang, Parliamentary Secretary (Health & Fishery).

This is an initiative of the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for development of pollution free green energy which is renewable in nature and friendly to the environment, informed the APEDA Director in a release.

Tuki congratulated

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has congratulated Chief Minister'Nabam Tuki for being inducted as a member of the National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) headed by the Prime Minister.

“It is a moment of great pride that the Chief Minister’s innovative ideas have been recognized by other states and the country,” APCC said in a congratulatory message.

Arunachal was the first State to organize job mela and skill development for the unemployed educated youth three years ago under the leadership of the CM. He deserved to be nominated as the member of NSDM, the message said.

Meanwhile, APCC alleged that the BJP has been mis-using the Raj Bhawan and asked to refrain from using it as their ‘party headquarter’. Otherwise, Congress party will be forced to knock the door of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the APCC release said.

AUFC to lock horns with E&Ks in Veterans Futbol Cup final

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Arunachal United Football Club (AUFC) will lock horns with E&Ks in the final of the Veterans Futbol Cup on Monday.

Arunachal United Football Club (AUFC) entered into the final defeating Shalley Anchal Unified Football Club 2-0 today.

AUFC largely dominated the match with Kage Dodum scoring the first goal within fifth minutes. Mudo Loser scored the second goal in the 66th minute for AUFC.

Kage Dodum of AUFC was chosen for the man of the match title.

Selection trial

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: All Papum Pare Athletic Association (APPAA) will conduct selection trial on November 21 at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy playground to select players (both male and female) for track and field events for the Mini Olympic Games.

Interested athletes are suggested to reach the venue of trials at 6 am. They may also contact Coach MK Pegu for more information.

KKDOA selects boxing, taekwondo and archery teams for Mini Olympics

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Kurung Kumey District Olympic Association (KKDOA) has selected the district Boxing, Teakwondo and Archery teams for the Mini Olympics scheduled to be held from December 2.

The 17-member boxing team includes 10 male and seven female boxers.

The players were selected after trials held at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy playground today in presence of Kurung Kumey ZPC Sangha Tagik, KKDOA president Tadar Kakum, Kurung Kumey Boxing Association general secretary Biri Chatung and Coach Nangram Roman.

Over 150 athletes are attending the trial selection. The selection trials for the remaining disciplines will be held tomorrow, informed KKDOA president Tadar Kakum.

Arunachal govt to set up regional culture centre

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today said the government is contemplating setting up a regional cultural centre here soon to preserve the cultural mosaic of the state, which is home to a diverse tribes and multilingual communities.

"The proposed center will provide a platform to all the tribes to preserve and promote their diverse culture besides creating employment opportunities to the unemployed youths," he told the fifth general conference of Arunachal Artistes Forum (AAF) at Nirjuli.

The chief minister also announced a corpus fund of Rs 50 lakh for AAF.

Besides preserving and maintaining the cultural mosaic, there was also urgent need to introspect on preserving the indigenous dialects, Tuki said and called upon the artists to not only shoulder the responsibility but also to showcase and pass it on to the younger generation to emulate.

Admitting that not much had been done for the welfare of artists in the state, Tuki said the government is committed to see that the artists gets a right platform to showcase their talents.

He referred to the upcoming National Institute for Film and Television in the state and said with it the state would have lot of artists and experts in art field.

"We need to provide avenues to our local youths who are already engaged in this field. We have therefore launched a scheme of financial assistance for film production for which fund of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked. This will not only engage our artists but will provide them employment opportunities."

The first North East Film festival would be held in the state this year, he added. PTI

Arunachal celebrates Children’s Day

Governor exhorts children to work hard to excel in life

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Along with the rest of the Nation, the Children’s Day was celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh by various organizations and institutions to mark the 126th birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as he was fond of children.

At Raj Bhavan, the Children’s Day was celebrated with children from various schools of Itanagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh J P Rajkhowa exhorted the children to work hard to excel in life. He said that they have a long way to go, therefore, they must imbibe discipline and good moral character and develop compassion for disadvantaged section of the people. Be inspired by great personalities like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Swami Vivekananda, he added.

The Governor, who earlier gave away the prizes to the winners of the games and sports activities on the day, said that childhood is the best period of life and the children must fully enjoy it.

Advising the parents to provide equal opportunities to their children, whether it is a boy or a girl, the Governor emphasized that there must be no difference between boy and girl as both equally contribute towards the society and the nation. The Governor further advised the children to not only maintain good personal hygiene but also maintain cleanliness at their own home, society and the state.

The celebration of the special occasion at Raj Bhavan was organised by Muskan Welfare Society, which is headed by the First Lady. Large number of children from different schools, including Govt. Primary School, Raj Bhavan, Itanagar participated in different games and sports events on the day.

Highlighting on the background of the celebration, First Lady Rita Rajkhowa said that it is for Pandit Nehru’s love and care for children that Children’s Day is observed on his birth anniversary. She advised the children to instill love and amity amongst them and to become the champions of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for a Clean and Green Arunachal Pradesh.

MWS Secretary, Kobby Zirdo Bagra and member Tumken Angu also spoke on the occasion.

To inculcate a spirit of sharing and to nurture a sense of solidarity, the children in Newman School Neotan celebrated Children’s Day with fund raising to help the poor children in other parts of the country.

They along with their teachers organized a fancy fete with a variety of fun games. The children took active part in it and contributed generously to raise fund for the poor children.

Fr. Felix Anthony, the Principal of the school, appreciated students for their generous expression of solidarity with poor children.

The teachers of Newman School put up a colourful cultural programme to entertain the children prior to the fancy fete.

The fund raised from this fete will be forwarded to Neman Educational Society, the educational wing of the Diocese of Miao, which has its headquarters in Miao.

DRS International School, Itanagar celebrated Children’s Day in a colourful manner. The programme started with a floral tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

One of the Director Sangita Goswami spoke about Pandit Nehru’s philosophy and how he worked his entire life to build a secured future for the children. She appealed to the students to become a responsible citizen and work for betterment of the society.

Attending the valedictory function, Councillor Taba Yall Nabam stressed the need for maintaining a good student-teacher relationship for good academic atmosphere and performance. The chairman of the School and Former Chief Councillor Hegio Aruni said that student period is the golden period of one’s life. She appealed to the students to strive for academic excellence and learn to serve the society.

Pandit Nehru remembered

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The 126th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was celebrated by the National Student Union of India (NSUI) Arunachal Pradesh.

Home Minister, Tanga Byaling, Parliamentary Secretary, Geology and Mining, Nyamar Karbak, National Secretary NSUI in-charge Arunachal Pradesh, Kamrul Islam Choudhury, APYC office bearers, APCC office bearers, NSUI team attended the observation. Speaking in the occasion, PS Nyamar Karbak highlighted the role of Nehru as the architect of the modern India and as the man behind secular India. “Nehru is an institution and a legend. He is not just for the Congress but for the whole India. His worth cannot even be measured,” said Karbak.

Earlier, Home Minister Tanga Byaling spoke on the philosophy of Nehru.

The awards for the winners of State Level Essay Writing Competition 2015 were also given out during the celebration.

To mark the ceremony, NSUI state unit had organised the State Level Essay Competition where 133 participants from different colleges and universities took part, on the topic ‘Role of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in Nation building as Prime Minister and leader of Indian National Congress’, on Nov 10.

NSUI also took a great initiative to save the life of Archim Kri who is undergoing treatment of Liver Cancer in New Delhi, by placing a donation box in the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan campus towards the cause. Many who attended the program including the frontal wings of the Congress party extended their charitable gestures.

Bridge collapses; remains unrepaired

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The steel bridge over Pang River remained unrepaired for 14 days since it collapsed on November one causing complete disruption in road communication.

The bridge collapsed when a truck was midway across it, informed Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena, Papum Pare District unit. The bridge has also touched down a nearby building at the time of collapse.

However, there was no any causality.

The truck is still dangerously dangling on the side of the collapsed bridge. The Sena team urged the District Administration for early repair of the bridge to restore communication. It also urged the department concerned to construct protection wall to prevent soil erosion.

The AACS-PPU told that a representation was submitted to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in August last to provide fund for construction of protection wall but no fund has been released yet.

We are following the advice of central leaders: Dissident MLAs

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: While appreciating statements made in print and social media by various organizations and individuals regarding the on-going crisis in leadership in the Congress party as a positive sign of vibrant state, the rebel Congress MLAs in a joint press statement said that they are only following the advice of the central leaders.

“With regard to our being currently in New Delhi, it needs to be clarified that since the protest is against the Chief Minister himself, it is impractical to discuss the matter within the State party machinery, as being in power, he is likely to influence decisions taken at Itanagar. In this we are only following the advice of the central leaders who had recently visited Itanagar and asked that “any grievances of any party leader or worker should be brought to the Congress house and sorted them out within the party.” It is crucial that we, as a society, must accept that a privilege to have a difference in opinion and the right to have a voice of dissent is at the core of democratic functioning, without it, institutions and organisations invariably lose direction and focus, the statement said.

They further observed that within an organizational structure like a political party too a difference of opinion should exist, and does exist in each organization - including in those who have made the statements. It is not only desirable but also vital that there is always an inner voice that raises questions that are valid, rational and in the greater interests of the people, that must remain un-negotiable, if a society has to evolve.

“What the state is witnessing today in the Congress party is precisely that same spirit of questioning - of a style of functioning and its unsatisfactory outcome, combined with a betrayal of trust that is negatively impacting development in the state,” the statement said adding “It is for the same reason why we have raised questions about the legitimacy of the current leadership and its failure to deliver on governance and development, as we have earlier shared with the people of the State who have voted us to power.”

The rebel MLAs further said that “the present level of mismanagement of developmental funds, mis-governance, incidences of blatant nepotism and partiality in allocation of funds are known to every citizen of the state. Such a dark period of history has never been seen before under the leadership of successive Chief Ministers Gegong Apang, Mukut Mithi, Late Dorjee Khandu and Jarbom Gamlin.”

It is only with the support of the people of the state and to give voice to their disenchantment that we have been able to take the bold decision of coming out openly against the autocratic leadership” the statement added.

Unions demand posting of supporting

staff in Basar College

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Galo Students’ Union (GSU) and West Siang District Students’ Union (WSDSU) have appealed to the education department to take steps for immediate posting of supporting staff like LDC, peons, drivers and chowkidars in the Govt Model College, Basar.

During its recent visit to the College to get first hand information about the various problems faced by the college authorities, a joint team of GSU and WSDSU came to know that, though there is no shortage of lecturers, not a single supporting or ministerial staff has been posted in this college since it’s inception. Due to non-availability of supporting staff, the Union claimed, the college authority has been taking the help of PWD office staff to run the day-to-day official works of the college. During its visit, the team also held a in-dept discussion with the College Principal Motum Nomuk to take stock of various problems faced by the college and also donated textbook for college library, according to a GSU release.

The joint team also visited the permanent site of Govt. Model College, Basar to take stock of the ongoing construction works and urged the Basar PWD EE to carry out construction work as per specifications and not to compromise with quality.

AAPSU celebrates Children’s Day with underprivileged children

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: With an objective to encourage the underprivileged children, a team of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) led by its General Secretary Biru Nasi coordinated by Education Secretary Danghi Mangham celebrated the Children’s Day in various Orphanage Institutions such as Mother Teresa Home, Oju Mission at Naharlagun and Gyan Mission Orphanage at July here today.

Interacting with orphan children, AAPSU GS urged them to become good citizen of the state and country through their sheer determination and hard work. “Be an example of success and show the path of true dedication to privileged children,” he added. AAPSU team distributed text books, playing kits, clothes, rice and other ration items to child care centers.

Appreciating the noble initiatives of the institutions, Nasi appealed to every citizen to come forward to help and contribute for the welfare of underprivileged children. He opined that people should support and help these orphan institutions whole heartedly.

Arunachal celebrates 62nd Cooperative Week

NAHARLAGUN, Nov 14: The 62nd All India Cooperative Week with the theme of “Make in India through Cooperatives” was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU) at Polo Colony today.

The National Cooperative week is celebrated from November 14 to 20.

Itanagar Municipal Council, Chief Councillor, Kipa Kaku declared the Cooperative Week open amidst thunderous applause from the gathering in a small yet impressive function.

Addressing the gathering, Kipa Kaku made aware the participants about the importance of the cooperative movement. She urged the co-operators to avail benefit from the Co-operative Banks functioning in the state as it is the most convenient institutional arrangement for availing the credit by farmers. Cooperative institutions are intended for the welfare of the common men particularly the rural poor section and have to continue to play a vital role in the economic upliftment of the people, she added. She informed that the state government has initiated lots of programmes and policies for the development of cooperative sector in the state and has asked all to avail the benefits from the cooperative societies.

In his presidential address, Chairman APSCU, Bengia Hemanta emphasized on importance of agriculture activities and said that roadmap to uplift of every tribal society depends entirely on agriculture movement.

Speaking about the importance of cooperative movement, Bengia also urged all participants to avail maximum benefits from the technical session to be imparted to them in the week-long celebration.

Bengia further informed that co-operative movement, which is the largest socio-economic movement in the world, has contributed significantly to the alleviation of poverty, creation of productive employment as well as the enhancement of social integration in the state.

Consultant of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), G S Azad elaborated about the national cooperative week celebration and informed that the celebration of cooperative week coincides with the birthday of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was a great visionary and an ardent supporter of the cooperative movement. He said that the National Co-operative Week helps to raise awareness of the co-operative enterprise model, motivating people to join the co-operative movement. The basic objective of celebrating the event is to highlight the achievements of the cooperative sector across the country so as to create a favourable public opinion about the cooperative movement.

The week-long celebration will conclude with seminar on ‘Financial Inclusion and Cooperatives’ at State Cooperative Building, Polo Colony on November 20.

Governor extends greetings to Press Fraternity

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh J P Rajkhowa has extended warm greetings and best wishes to all the members of the media fraternity of the Nation and Arunachal Pradesh in particular on the momentous occasion of National Press Day.

The Governor expressed hope that the occasion will enthuse every member of the fraternity to continue their excellent service towards the cause of the society, especially the downtrodden, children, women, the old and otherwise able. He said that the Press must be always remembered by one and all that the Press is the fourth Pillar of Freedom. Without a free, fair, fearless, transparent and truthful Press, democracy would be in danger. Similarly, the syndrome of Paid News’ has to be fought by the media itself tooth and nail, in order to serve the Freedom of the Press on a firm footing.

In his message for the Press Day, the Governor said the media is a mirror to reflect correctly the happenings in society to the public at large and therefore, it must profile issues requiring attention. At the same time, it should carefully avoid sensationalizing the happenings, particularly when the incident involves young, women or sensitive social and national security issues. Special effort must be there from the media fraternity to focus on core sectors like education, health, rural development, tourism, environment and humanity. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Clean Arunachal, Green Arunachal should also be focused areas.

Pario calls for united move for development

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: PHE and Water Supply Minister Takam Pario has urged the Govt officers and elected leader to work together for over-all development of Palin area. He was addressing the gathering at the fourth general conference cum-felicitation function of Palin Employee’s Welfare Association (PEWA) which concluded at Palin today

He urged the officers and staff of Palin to extend all support and cooperation in developing the newly created district as model district of the state.

DC Kra Daadi Habung Donyi lauded the Palin Employee’s Welfare Association for the social awareness campaign with Puroik community.

Gimi Senaki was also awarded for being the first and best Cardamom farmer of the area. Retired ST of Govt. Higher Secondary school Palin, A K Sexana was also felicitated for being the best and longest serving teacher in the area.
